What is the EPF Scheme?

Employee Provident Fund scheme or Provident Fund (EMP or PF) is a particular investment plan for Salaried employees in India. This scheme helps employees to fulfill 3 goals viz. 

  1. Wealth Building 
  2. Regular Income after retirement. 
  3. Savings for Family. 

This scheme is regulated by 3 acts in India naming them – Employees’ Provident Fund Scheme Act, 1952, the Employees’ Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme Act, 1976 and the Employees’ Pension Scheme Act, 1995.

In this scheme, some amount of 12% from employees & employers is contributed to this scheme every month. The accumulated corpus at time of retirement shall be provided to an individual adding pre-fixed interest from Employees Provident Fund Organisation. 

The Corpus amount is non-taxable! 

According to the Act, PF registration is a must for every establishment with employees of 20 or more. 

Employees Provident Fund is a saving scheme for the workforce. PF is managed by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) under the Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952.

What is the ESI Scheme?

Employees’ State Insurance Scheme of India is a multi-dimensional Social Security Scheme tailored to provide Socio-economic protection to the ’employees’ in the organized sector against the events of sickness, maternity, disablement and death due to employment injury and to provide medical care to the insured employees and their families.

ESI is a social security and health insurance scheme for Indian workforce. ESI is managed by Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) as per the rules and regulations mentioned in ESI Act 1948.
